The Young Are Ready to Take Risks

Created through the efforts of Rimas Tuminas, Artistic Director of the Vakhtangov Theatre, the First Studio—bringing together thirty young actors—is now well known among Moscow theatre audiences.
So are its bold experiments: productions of Aristophanes’ The Birds, Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author, and the drama Pelléas and Mélisande. The studio’s most recent work, Miss NOBODY from Alabama, has been described by critics as a true jewel of the theatre’s repertoire. Two young studio actors, Andrey Zlobin and Pavel Popov, delivered outstanding performances in the premiere of The Run.
“At last, the young generation I had dreamed of has come to the Vakhtangov Theatre. They experiment, they perform, and they find their own paths to the audience. Once construction of the New Stage is completed, the best productions will be transferred there,” Rimas Tuminas told Vechernyaya Moskva.
Actress Adelina Gizatullina is 23 years old. A graduate of the Shchepkin Theatre School, she was invited to the Lenkom Theatre by Mark Zakharov. However, a year ago she joined the First Studio, where she was immediately offered the leading role in Miss NOBODY…—that of Zelda Fitzgerald.
“The Vakhtangov Theatre is one of the few that invites young artists. The First Studio was created for young people who are ready to take risks and win,” says Adelina Gizatullina. “All of us already perform leading roles not only in studio productions, but also on the theatre’s Main and Small Stages.”
