On April 27, the premiere of I Created Audrey Hepburn, written and directed by Adelina Gizatullina, will take place on the “Studio” stage of the Vakhtangov Theatre.
The production is based on real events from Audrey Hepburn’s life. However, its main focus is not on her career, but rather on her complex relationship with her mother and how it shaped the personality of the future Hollywood star. The play explores the nature of maternal love — the balance between support and strictness, acceptance and the desire to change one’s child.
“The world knows Audrey Hepburn as an actress and a style icon. But very few know what she truly dreamed about. I believe this story will resonate not only with women — men will also recognize themselves in these characters. As a child, I was fascinated by Audrey, and I continue to admire her as a woman of remarkable purity and kindness.”
— Adelina Gizatullina, director
The role of Audrey Hepburn is performed by Anna Chumak, while the role of her mother is played by Elena Sotnikova.
Adelina Gizatullina was previously a member of the First Studio of the Vakhtangov Theatre and later joined the theatre’s main company. She subsequently shifted her focus to directing after graduating from the Moscow Film School. Her previous theatrical works include Frida: Life in Color and Nijinsky: The Brilliant Idiot, staged at the Simonov Stage, where she also performed the leading roles.
The premiere of this new production continues the director’s artistic exploration of the lives of iconic cultural figures through the lens of personal and emotional conflict.
