AUDREY HEPBURN’S JOURNEY TO STARDOM TO BE TOLD AT THE VAKHTANGOV THEATRE

April 24, 2026, 12:37 — Tatyana Vlasova

On April 27, the Vakhtangov Theatre’s Studio Stage will host the premiere of the play I Created Audrey Hepburn.

The production is based on real events from Audrey Hepburn’s life, but places particular focus on her difficult relationship with her mother and the way it influenced the development of the future Hollywood star. Playwright and director Adeline Gizatullina explores an important question here: in a mother’s love, what is stronger — support or demanding expectations, acceptance of a person as they are, or the desire to reshape them?

“The world knows Audrey Hepburn as an actress and a style icon. But very few people know what she truly dreamed of. I believe this story will resonate not only with women. Men, too, will recognize themselves in these characters,” says Adeline Gizatullina. “As a child, I was fascinated by Audrey, and I continue to admire her today — a woman of extraordinary purity and kindness.”

The role of Audrey will be played by Anna Chumak, while her mother will be portrayed by Elena Sotnikova.

It is worth noting that Adeline Gizatullina was once a member of the Vakhtangov Theatre’s First Studio and later joined the company, though she left it a few years ago before graduating from the Directing Department of the Moscow Film School. Earlier, at her initiative, two productions appeared on the Simonov Stage — Frida. Life in Color and Nijinsky. The Brilliant Idiot, in which Adeline performed the leading roles.
