The Vakhtangov Theatre to Present a Play About the Life of Artist Frida Kahlo

April 6, 2018

On April 8, the Moscow Vakhtangov Theatre will premiere the play “Frida: Life in Color,” which tells the story of the world-renowned Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.

Directed by Leila Abu-al-Kishk, the production explores the couple’s creativity, love, contradictions, disputes, and reconciliations. According to the playwright of “Frida: Life in Color,” the play reveals what lies behind Frida Kahlo’s bright and, in part, naïve paintings. It is a story of loneliness, passion, pain, love, and destiny.

The role of the Mexican artist will be performed by Adelina Gizatullina, while her husband Diego Rivera will be played by Denis Samoylov.

During one of the rehearsals, the young Vakhtangov actors were joined by Natalia Fortuny Jerez, Cultural Advisor at the Embassy of Mexico. She spoke to the cast and production team about her country, its culture and traditions, as well as Frida Kahlo, her Casa Azul (Blue House) Museum, and the theatre scene in Mexico City
